Crystal Hughes is a native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, was raised in the area from early childhood, but attended middle and high school in Allen, Texas where her family has lived since. Crystal was confirmed at the First United Methodist Church of Allen, Texas, and completed Youth Disciple Bible Study where her call to ministry originated. Crystal attended the University of Oklahoma, completed a Bachelors of Music Education, and marched in the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band.

She began to live into her call to ministry through participation and leadership with Young Life, and also in a few United Methodist Churches in youth ministry before taking church appointments during seminary at Wakita UMC in Oklahoma and Corder UMC in Missouri while attending Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City. Recently, Crystal served as the senior pastor of Morris UMC in Oklahoma.

Crystal is married to Chris Ruddell, also a Provisional United Methodist Elder and an accountant. Crystal and Chris met in seminary when they served 5 churches between the two of them and lived close to each other. They have a son, Liam, and daughter, Lisbeth, who bring a lot of joy into their lives.

Since parenting takes up a lot of time, Crystal is inclined to say that she has no hobbies, however, she just went junk shopping over the weekend so she wants to be honest. She enjoys OU football games and is a pretty loud commentator during those games. Generally Crystal enjoys creative projects that she ropes Chris into doing, which would account for the several pieces of refinished furniture they own. Crystal enjoys being around people, listening to their stories, and sharing their lives.

Crystal perceives her ministry gifts in the areas of pastoral counseling, teaching, and enjoys the challenge of preaching. She believes that her job in the church is to join in the work that God has already been doing in this congregation, and to continue to make Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World!
